Johnson
on raising the national debt limit:
“In Texas, we call that having champagne taste
on a beer budget”

Today, Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.—Texas)
spoke on the House floor about the Democrats’ bill to raise
the nation’s debt limit by $290 billion dollars to a staggering
$12.394 trillion.
Since the Democrats took control of Congress in
2007, the debt limit has increased by more than 33%. This is in
great part due to the recent spending by the Democrats which this
year has included a $787 billion dollar stimulus package, the
$447 billion dollar appropriations bill and the $700 billion dollar
Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
“It’s scary to think that the Democrats
can spend nearly two trillion dollars without batting an eye,”
stated Johnson, an ardent fiscal conservative.
Johnson believes that the Congress, like every
American family, should tighten its budget during these tough
economic times. Now more than ever, it is not the time to hike
up the deficit and spend, spend, spend. The need to raise the
national debt is a sure sign that the Democrats’ spending
is out of control.
“Anyone who has balanced a checkbook or
taken Economics 101 will tell you that you can’t base a
budget on ‘I Owe You’s,’” said Johnson.
“In Texas, we call that having champagne taste on a beer
budget.”
Johnson represents portions of Dallas and Collin
counties.
