Sam
Johnson on National Security

Supporting
our troops
As a 29-year Air Force veteran and a Prisoner of War in Vietnam
for nearly seven years, I know what it's like to serve
your country far away from home and feel like some of your fellow
Americans don't care about you.
I will not let that happen again as we have a new generation of
men and women serving in harm's way.
Time and time again I have stood up for our brave and selfless
men and women in uniform. By the grace of God, I will do anything
and everything I can in Congress to make sure our troops on the
ground have the tools they need for success. Funding our troops
and their mission is the only option!
We must remember that America's service men and women
volunteer to dedicate their lives to the armed forces. They commit
their lives to this country willingly and that's something
few other countries can say. We're so richly blessed by
their service. There is no mandatory service requirement, also
known as the draft, and I want to keep it that way.
Promoting
America's resolve
We
have been facing terror attacks on our citizens around the world
since the early 1990's. We stand united for this country's
security.
On
September 11th, the terrorists successfully shook our hearts,
but they will not shake our foundations or our resolve. We're
battling radical Islamists bent on promoting jihadi terrorism.
We cannot stand down.
We will not live in fear in our own homes, schools and churches.
That is why I am committed to keeping this country safe and doing
all that we can to ensure that America will always be the land
of the free and the home of the brave.
Winning
the Global War against Terrorism
As
a life-long fighter pilot, I want our troops to come home from
Iraq and Afghanistan safely and soon — when the time is
right. Our guys on the ground are making great strides in Iraq
and I will stand up and be counted in Washington as their tireless
supporter and biggest advocate.
We
need to leave the winning strategy to the leaders on the ground
— not to some folks in Washington, most who have never worn
the uniform a day in their lives.
Members of Congress and United State Senators have no
business micromanaging war strategy. It is beyond the
Congressional Powers in the Constitution. Congress is not the
Commander-in-Chief, the President is. Congress should leave war
fighting to the generals who are on the front lines and who do
it everyday!
