Sam
Johnson on Economic Security

Advocating
fiscal discipline
When
the government is spending your money, Americans want, need and
deserve it to be fiscally disciplined and held accountable.
We must force the federal government to live within its means.
If families must live within their budget, then the federal
government should too. That's why I support measures
to hold down spending in Congress.
Fighting
for tax relief
The Democrats in Washington want to raise your taxes.
I will fight like mad to prevent that from happening.
Strengthening
Social Security
Did you know that there is no Social Security account with your
name on it just waiting for you to retire?
As the highest-ranking Republican on the Social Security Subcommittee,
I am one of the only Members of Congress to introduce legislation
to strengthen this program teetering into the red.
Make no mistake — Social Security will be there for current
and near retirees. We have to think about the future! We must
make changes now while there is still time to help younger workers
save for retirement.
My
plan is simple: I propose allowing younger employees to
create a personal retirement account. They send half
of their Social Security tax money to the government to pay for
current and near retirees, as well as disability. They keep the
other half to invest in a personal retirement account to save
on their own. The government won't own this money and it
can't be taken away.
