Last night, South Korea’s President, Lee Myung-bak, recognized Congressman Johnson on the U.S. House floor by thanking him for his military service in the Korean War.
Most widely known for his service in Vietnam (having served nearly seven years as a Prisoner of War in Hanoi), Congressman Johnson flew 62 combat missions in the Korean War in an F-86E with the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing, 51st Fighter Interceptor Group and 16th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. While flying his "Shirley's Texas Tornado", named after his wife, he is credited with shooting down a North Korean MiG-15.
